Who We Are

Welcome to Oakland United Methodist Church web site. These pages should tell you a little about who we are and some of what we value. But a visit for our Sunday morning service or activities will give you a much better sense of the warmth and friendliness of our church family. We offer a contemporary and casual atmosphere with a strong family focus. Oakland actively addresses community needs in Jefferson County and supports wholesome, worthwhile activities throughout the county, the state of West Virginia, and beyond.  We sponsor many programs to improve the quality of life for the people and families in our community.

Our Worship - Experience God in a new way

From the energetic music of the band to the reflective waters of baptism; from creative visuals to the thoughtful presentation of the Gospel; worship is an opportunity to love God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength.... and be transformed in his presence!

Our History

We were born in 1881 when the small group of people who had been meeting as the Mt. Hope Sabbath School was officially organized into Oakland (for the grove of Oak trees) Methodist Episcopal Church, and a new building was constructed.

Bethany Church, which merged with Oakland in 1993, also began as a Sunday School in 1882 with construction on their new building in Bardane.

The church began to grow in the 1980's and '90's and the congregation moved first to a local school, then, through a series of God-inspired circumstances, to a double-wide trailer at our present location. Construction of our current building began in 1997 and the congregation continued to grow.

Our Mission

Our purpose is to positively impact our community and reach people with the truth, relevance, and life-changing power of Jesus Christ.
