SECURITY in the Wilderness

Posted by Rudy Bropleh on

Ezekiel 34:25
25I will make a covenant of peace with them and rid the land of savage beasts so that they may live in the wilderness and sleep in the forests in safety.

Ezekiel 34:28
28 They will no longer be plundered by the nations, nor will wild animals devour them. They will live in safety, and no one will make them afraid.

In modern societies many local governments have planning, zoning, and engineering offices. These offices help people to build in appropriate places (whether residential or commercial), ensure that structures are built properly, and provide easy access for essential services. The school bus, the mailman, the water, light, phone, and cable people are then able to reach your home. This is a normal community.

Unlike the normal community, a wilderness is usually an uncultivated, uninhabited, and unsafe place. Wild animals may roam in the wilderness. You can’t just dial 9-1-1 in the wilderness—you may not get a signal to call and even if you did, there may be no police nearby. Security is therefore one of the issues to be concerned about in the wilderness.

You may not physically be in a wilderness, and that’s good. But are there financial pressures in your life? Have you felt insecure in your relationship?  Are you stressing about your family safety in the midst of this Coronavirus pandemic? Do issues with your health concern you? What about your relationship with God? Do you sometimes feel like you are just going through the motions, like God is afar or you are not connecting with Him?

The wilderness takes on many forms—financial, relational, familial, emotional, mental, and spiritual. The good news is, God will grant us security in the wilderness of our lives. God promises to protect us from the “savages” of life—those people and things that make us feel uncertain and insecure (Ezekiel 34:25, 28).

Being fearful is never helpful, especially when you find yourself experiencing a wilderness moment. It is okay to be afraid, but don’t allow the fear to disable your faith. When you feel like your faith is not strong enough, ask God to grow your faith for the fight at hand. Be assured, though, that God is willing and able to provide security for you and your family in whatever situation you are dealing with. With God, you can win in the wilderness. He will provide you security as you go out and come in.

Wisdom for this Week
Being fearful is not helpful; being hopeful invites the help of God.
